As a Healthy Air Champion, Janet raises awareness of the impact of poor air quality on our everyday lives.

Alongside Healthy Air Cymru’s other Healthy Air Champions, Janet is working hard to get Wales a Clean Air Act.

As the Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet is a sitting member of the Senedd’s Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee and is a joint Vice-Chair of the Cross-party Group for a Clean Air Act.

As the Senedd’s Harbour Porpoise Champion, and living in the North Wales seaside resort of Llandudno, Janet is passionate about marine conservation. In line with a wish to level up rural communities, she is actively working to implement a green Covid-19 recovery that balances economic prosperity, including providing long-term clean energy and marine job opportunities, with advancements in legislation to safeguard the environment.

Underlining the need for a Welsh Clean Air Act, Janet says:

“Poor air quality remains the greatest environmental risk to public health, underlining the need for regulations now. To save lives, and improve the health of the nation, we need legislation as soon as possible to clean up the air that we breathe.

“The failure of the Welsh Government to bring forward a Clean Air Act in the government’s legislative programme, in spite of the clear cross-party consensus that such a Bill is required, is deeply disappointing and is another broken promise to people and communities across Wales. 

Poor air quality contributes to a reduced life expectancy and death, tallying an equivalent of between 1,000 and 1,400 mortalities in Wales each year, and costing the Welsh NHS approximately £1 billion each year.
